Identify the time on the analog clock and use a clothespin to mark the correct digital time.

🕰️ Need a Time Telling Activity?

It’s about time!

Through this activity, students will practice their time skills by reading the analog clocks to the hour, half-hour, and quarter-hour.

To play, provide students with clothespins they’ll use to mark one of three digital times on the bottom of the card that correctly matches the clock face. Answer keys are provided for each differentiation level.

In addition to a PDF printable, this can also be completed as a digital Google Slides activity!

Scaffolding + Extension Tips

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource for students to work on independently in your math center.

We’ve designed this activity with three differentiated versions of cards to accommodate students’ abilities and build up their time-telling skills. Shapes in the top right corner of the cards identify the three versions as follows:

  • Circle by the hour
  • Triangle by the hour and half hour
  • Square by the hour, half-hour, and quarter-hour

Support struggling students by starting with the hour cards (circle symbol) only. Gradually add in the half-hour and quarter-hour cards as students get more familiar with the concepts.

Challenge fast finishers who already understand the concept by removing the time options on the bottom. Download the Google Slides version and make a copy before deleting the times on the cards.

Check out these suggestions for using this activity to reinforce your small group and full-class math lessons too:

🛴 Scoot Activity

Place the cards around the room in numerical order and instruct students to number a sheet of paper as a recording sheet. Assign students in pairs to a starting card. Give students time to review the card and write the correct time on the clock in the corresponding space on their paper. Students will rotate to the next card when you say, “SCOOT!” Continue in this manner until students return to their starting point.

💻 Remote Teaching

With an interactive Google Slides version of this resource, no student has to miss out on the fun! Use Google Classroom to share the level-appropriate activity with your students from the comfort of their home learning area. Instead of clothespins, students will drag and drop the checks and x’s onto the times on the cards. (Users must be in Edit mode to complete the activity digitally.)
