A Christmas Light Template to Understand Christmas in Japan

As the holiday season approaches, it’s a beautiful time to kick off a cultural journey right from inside your classroom. While Christmas is a global holiday, did you know that in Japan, the Christmas holiday is unlike anywhere else in the world?

From dazzling light displays to non-traditional meals, Japan’s celebration of Christmas is a blend of the familiar and the wonderfully unexpected. Help your students learn more about Christmas in Japan, or “Kurisumasu”, and discover how the Japanese celebration of Christmas makes the season much brighter.

How Do They Celebrate Christmas in Japan? With Kindness, of Course!

Christmas is very popular in Japan, but it is not a religious holiday like in other countries. In Japan, Christmas is very similar to Valentine’s’ Day. Couples celebrate by going out to dinner or having small parties. This romantic holiday is celebrated on Christmas Eve. Couples exchange gifts, and the goal of the celebration is to spread happiness and love.

This holiday season, illuminate your students to the customs and traditions of a Japanese Christmas and encourage them to take up a Christmas Kindness Pledge.

This printable Kindness Christmas light template is a heartwarming and creative way to spread kindness and help your students learn about a new cultural celebration. Using this template, students will create a Kindness Christmas light craft to show how they plan on ‘lighting up the world’ with kindness this holiday season. Each template is beautifully designed with a beautiful Japanese patterned motif for your students to color when they finish writing.
